Cortney Hicks, President

Major: College Student Development
Graduation: Master's
Spring 2011

I stumbled upon AWC as a freshman, not realizing that the organization would provide me with numerous professional development opportunities. AWC is a collaboration of professionals in the media field, including all of their different perspectives and skills. Last year our chapter took advantage of this wide array when we coordinated OSU’s first JB Communications Networking Expo, which was (hands-down) one of my best AWC experiences. It was an incredible internship-like experience. While at OSU, I interned with the Daily O’Collegian, the Stillwater Family YMCA and with my campus ministry, and worked with students as a Community Mentor, Counselor, Conference Assistant and JB Ambassador. Now I’ve fallen in love with promoting non-profits, helping students, and communicating effectively – which is why I’m in grad school for CSD and the Graduate Assistant for the Service-Learning Volunteer Center. AWC helped me realize how important it is to help our students – both with information and personal development.

I am an Advertising Senior and will be graduating in May 2010! I interened at Oklahoma Magazine in the summer of 2009. I currently work at an office on-campus and do promotional ads for upcoming classes an online courses for Continuing Education in the Engineering Department. I have a high interest in web design, and I am the Web site coordinator, as well as the Treasurer, for my sorority, Sigma Phi Lambda. I enjoy and joined AWC because of the connections it creates with professionals and other students in my college. There are many great opportunities available in and through AWC!

I would love to do PR for the St. Louis Cardinals. I have interned at the OSU Service-Learning Volunteer Center. I also work at Joseppi's as a hostess. I joined AWC to gain access to opportunities that I would have never found on my own and to meet other students in my field.

Allison Broyles, Co-Vice President

Major: Public Relations
Graduation: Fall 2009
I am a public relations senior graduating in December 2009 with a French minor. I've interned at O'Neill Marketing Communications in Stillwater, OK and at Schanke Turnbo Frank PR in Tulsa, OK. I joined AWC to meet professionals and classmates in my field. Since joining, I have had the opportunity to learn from many professional women in communications. Helping with the first Career Networking Expo in Spring 2009 has been my favorite experience in AWC so far; I made a lot of great connections and helped other students to  network with local professionals.
I hope to one day use my French in traveling and my PR career to help a cause or a company that I believe in.

Professor of Advertising
Courses: Advertising Media & Markets, Media Sales & Marketing, Copywriting, E*Media Advertising, Integrated Marketing Communication

I love being a part of AWC because it gives you the opportunity to connect and network with people across the entire industry of communications. It takes away the segregation of the different areas including advertising, public relations, broadcasting, journalism, sports media. In AWC, you get exposed to it all!
