Advertising Account Manager
at The Journal Record Newspaper Tulsa, OK
email: heather.walke@journalrecord.com
The Journal Record is a multifaceted media company that has specialized in business, legislative and legal-related information sources statewide since 1903. In addition, we produce many specialty industry-related publications and host several statewide events.
Job description: As an advertising account manager for the Tulsa market, my main responsibility is to develop and maintain advertising accounts. I prepare and deliver sales presentations to new and existing customers based on their products/services, needs, problems, advertising history, and business practices to sell new advertising accounts and to increase existing advertising accounts. As a consultant to the client, my job is to make recommendations on specific advertising products The Journal Record has to offer that will deliver the biggest ROI to the client. For clients who cannot provide their own ads, I serve as the liaison between my production team and the client to create the most effective ad for them by putting together all of the elements – copy & graphics with layout & design. In addition, I contact potential clients through cold calling and networking, provide clients with advertising cost estimates, draw up advertising contracts, and am responsible for hitting my monthly sales goals for the newspaper and special publications.
Advice: Take the Media Sales & Marketing class, even if you don’t plan on doing sales! All advertising is sales!!! I didn’t take the class because I was one of those people who wasn’t going into sales, and low and behold I am in sales. Also, go with your intuition when deciding where to work. If it just doesn’t feel right, chances are it’s not. It’s better to hold out for the job you love than to dread going to work everyday.
